A soft rumbling and furniture being moved: An earthquake with a magnitude of 3.0 was felt near Trofaiach (Styria) on Tuesday afternoon, the GeoSphere Austria earthquake service said.
The earthquake was registered northwest of the city in the Leoben district. Numerous people within a radius of about 12 miles reported mild furniture shaking and moving. A rumbling sound could also be heard. However, damage to buildings is not expected at this level.
The earthquake agency is asking the public to report anything they see. This can be done via the web form, the QuakeWatch Austria app or by post to the following address: Austrian Seismological Service, GeoSphere Austria – Federal Institute for Geology, Geophysics, Climatology and Meteorology, Hohe Warte 38, 1190 Vienna. The recipient pays the shipping costs.
