“When I’m walking around town and someone says ‘Mr. Bishop’, then I know they mean me. That is enough,” the Catholic shepherd from Carinthia explains right at the beginning. And when asked what drives him personally: “It’s very simple: I love people and want to do good for them.”
Like the people from Klagenfurt Eggerheim, a refuge for the homeless. Josef Marketz has a special bond with them since his time as Caritas director; especially to Leo, who calls himself the ‘mayor’ of Eggerheim: ‘Because he is noisy’, the bishop laughs: ‘Yes. I agree with Pope Francis when he says: you must also have someone who is poor as a friend. Like Leo.”
