On September 12, 2024, wild scenes reportedly took place in Linz: two men grabbed a woman and dragged her into a car. The suspected kidnappers were not strangers, but the victim’s husband (44) and son (19). Both were sentenced to prison in Linz.

The defender of an on-again, off-again relationship that is said to have suffered enormously from the woman’s mental illness. The mother of nine children is said to have moved several times in recent years, but always returned to her family.
Seeking protection in a women’s shelter
Even before the alleged kidnapping on September 12, the mother had reportedly been in the Linz women’s shelter for several weeks and had coincidentally met her 19-year-old son there the day before. He allegedly asked the mother to return to her parents’ apartment to take care of the three minor children again.
Mother has adapted
“She wanted a divorce,” the prosecutor says – and she always looked at the surveillance cameras before leaving the women’s shelter. That was the case that day, but she met her son again in front of the safe shelter. Her husband is said to have hidden in nearby bushes.
Grabbed by the upper arm
“I told my mother to come home,” the 19-year-old explained to the judge. After the conversation, the man ran up to the woman and grabbed her upper arm – so hard that she suffered a bruise. He then allegedly grabbed her head and covered her mouth. He and his son then placed the woman in the backseat of the car and drove her to the apartment.
The police spoke to mother via mobile phone
“She was in a good mood again and smoking. “She could have gotten out at at least ten traffic lights,” the father told the judge, continuing: “Every time she didn’t take her pills, she rejected me and the children.” The trip to Croatia was “normal” Even though the police had contact with the mother via her mobile phone – say father and son in unison.
Stopped at gas station
“The man kissed the woman in the getaway car and licked her lips,” says the prosecutor. Shortly before the Slovenian border, the car was located using a cell phone location and stopped – the handcuffs clicked in front of the father-son duo. The 19-year-old was no longer in the car, but rather his younger brother. The eldest would have taken care of the little brothers and sisters during this time.
Up to ten years in prison
On Friday, the two defendants had to appear before the Linz Regional Court for deprivation of liberty and bodily harm – the penalty is up to ten years in prison. Both were sentenced to partial prison terms: the father to 21 months (seven unconditional), the son to seven months (two unconditional), already legally binding.
