The PP spokesperson at the Gipuzkoa General Assemblies has indicated that they will allow new budgets so as not to compete with Bizkaia “under inferior conditions”. Moreover, he highlighted that they have introduced several initiatives, including a pilot plan for migration.
The PP announced on Thursday its support for the Gipuzkoa budget project for “fairness and responsibility”, with a historic allocation of 1,218 million euros, because “it would not be good” for Gipuzkoa to compete with Bizkaia “under inferior conditions”.
The spokesperson of the PP in the General Assemblies of Gipuzkoa, Mikel Lezamaaccompanied by PP member Jorge Mota, explained at a press conference that they have assessed what it would mean for Gipuzkoa to approve or reject these regional bills, and have decided that “the political discrepancy, the partisan struggle cannot be an obstacle for Gipuzkoa to advance”.
For this reason, the PP will support the budget project of the Gipuzkoa Provincial Council, although the popular leader has indicated that the PP would have “apparently” made a “different” provincial budget. They have tabled several amendments in this regard.
Lezama stated that he introduced several initiatives in the draft budget, including a pilot plan for the regularization, training and integration of migrants.
The PNV-PSE provincial minority government will thus approve the legislature’s first budget after last year’s failed attempt, when the lack of support forced the executive to withdraw its proposal and extend the bills for 2023.
The PP’s support guarantees the approval of the 2025 bills, which will be voted on at the plenary meeting scheduled for December 20 during the General Assemblies.
EH Bildu assures that the PP’s support in Gipuzkoa does not change negotiations with the Basque government
The PP’s support for the Gipuzkoa budgets “will not change anything” in the budget negotiations that EH Bildu hopes will “come to fruition” with the Basque government. According to EH Bildu sources, a mid-morning meeting will be held in the Basque parliament, which they hope will “result in an agreement.”
The sovereigntist coalition has assured that “it is incorrect” that it included taxes in its third proposal. In this sense, he recalled that they had withdrawn that point from the negotiations “to facilitate an agreement on housing and SMI.”
