A collision occurred between an intercity train and a truck in the Polish village of Nowa Sucha. Even though the red light was on and the barriers were already lowered, the driver of the truck drove onto the level crossing and stopped there.
Surveillance camera footage shows the truck driver ignoring the warning lights and pushing his way through the barrier arms that were already closing, breaking through one barrier but stopping a few meters later at the level crossing before the next .
Instead of breaking through the dangerous situation, the truck driver jumps out of the driver’s cab and uses hand gestures to try to stop the intercity, which is speeding at high speed – but it is already too late for that.
Four people were slightly injured
At the last moment he steps aside as the train crashes full force into the truck, throwing it off the rails like a toy. The intercity jumps off the rails, but fortunately does not tip over. The approximately 120 passengers on the train – except for four slightly injured people – miraculously escape only in horror.
Poland’s State Railways (PKP) published images of the collision on social media on Wednesday and said the collision caused damage worth more than twelve million zloty (the equivalent of almost 2.8 million euros).
Truck driver denies wrongdoing
According to local media, the 57-year-old truck driver, who has not been named and denies any wrongdoing, will be charged with “causing a disaster.”
