The girl was found by chance in February 2023 by the woman’s partner, who was unaware of the baby’s birth as the convicted woman kept it a secret. In those three years, the little girl never saw the light, breathed fresh air or saw another human being.
A woman holding her hidden child in a drawer during the day three years has been sentenced to seven and a half years in prison in the county of Cheshire (north-west England), in a case that has shocked the country.
The little girl has suffered serious consequences since those three years never saw the light from the sun, nor inhaled fresh airnor had interaction with other people.
According to local media, the little girl was found by chance in a state of severe malnutrition and unable to walk or talk in February 2023 by the woman’s partner when he was looking for the upstairs bathroom of the house and heard a sound similar to that of a baby.
When he got closer to see where the noise was coming from, the man discovered the girl, who had a cleft palate and was severely dehydrated, locked in a drawer and called the police.
The first social worker to go to the house after receiving the notice explained this to the British newspaper The Guardian, that he was “blown away” by what he saw when he arrived. “I was extremely shocked to see the baby looking at me while in a crate. She was staring at me and rocking back and forth,” he said.
“I looked at her mother and asked, ‘Is that where you got her?’ The mother replied: ‘Yes, in the drawer’. I was shocked that she showed no emotion and that the situation left her unmoved,” he added.
The baby was apparently born in March 2020 in the bathtub of the house in the English county of Cheshire his birth was kept secret and it was never registered.
The woman has stated that she put the baby in the drawer as a bed and occasionally went to her to feed her cereal dissolved in milk using a syringe and change her diaper. As time passed, the woman went back to work and he was absent to take her other children to school, leaving the little girl unattended for hours.
