Our homeland looks back on a rich history. For us personally, the eras we have experienced are especially interesting. Whether it’s our first memories as children or as adolescents and later adults, the decades have shaped us all differently. Which decade do you think was Austria’s heyday and why? We are excited!
Some of us may still be thinking of the 1950s or 1960s: in 1955, Austria regained its full sovereignty after World War II, after which it experienced an economic boom. The 1970s saw many reforms and social progress – Bruno Kreisky made a name for himself here and improved the lives of many Austrians through his political decisions. Looking back, these years are seen by many as a time of stability and prosperity. The 1990s were also an exciting time: in 1995 Austria joined the European Union, which was a big step for our small country. And that is just a very sketchy look back at our history.
Now it’s your turn: which decade do you remember positively as an Austrian? Is there a particular decade that you consider particularly formative for your family or for you personally? What might you be missing today compared to previous years, but what has improved? And how has your home generally changed in recent decades? Share your thoughts with us in the comments; we look forward to your contributions!
