In the Italian Alps, about 150 people were stuck for hours at various mountain stations on Friday due to weather-related cable car disruptions.
In the Alagna Valsesia ski resort in Piedmont, on the border with Switzerland, the wind blew so strongly that the lifts were canceled, the mountain rescue service said. During various rescue operations, all winter sports enthusiasts were gradually safely returned to the valley.
The difficult weather conditions make rescue difficult, the mountain rescue service also announced.
People are evacuated:
The emergency services were on their way to some mountain stations with snow plows. Because there was not enough snow in several places, the rescuers went on foot to the stranded skiers and hikers to guide them back to the valley.
Wind warning for the entire Piedmont region
According to the mountain rescue service, there was no danger to people at any time during the operations. They were all brought to the valley unharmed. Temperatures of around minus four degrees were forecast for the area in the evening. The Italian Air Force weather service had also issued a wind warning for the entire Piedmont region.
