“The Crown helps – Styria”: Thanks to your donation we can achieve so much! As for the cute Jonas, who was born without eyes. He is now over a year old and we visited the family again.
The weeks of Advent, Christmas, when the Christ Child finally arrives – hardly any other time of the year makes our children’s eyes shine more. What a glow comes over their faces when the next candle on the Advent wreath is lit, when Christmas lights make houses shine, when stands shine with glitter – and Christmas itself with all its wonders, large and small. The decorations on the Christmas tree. The colorful paper. The presents themselves. The little ones – and many grown-ups – can’t get enough of it.
However, Jonas, 15 months old, cannot see these wonders. And will never be able to see her. He was born with a genetic defect, one of those very rare and insidious defects. He has no eyes.
Donations made treatment in Germany possible
We have already told you about it. Today we also want to tell you how much we were able to help, but only thanks to you! Donations allowed the family to travel with the youngest of their four sons to Germany, where there are specialists in the field of genetic defects. They were also able to arrange a few things in the house so that Jonas wouldn’t hurt himself.
At this point he is already moving quite quickly on his wobbly legs. Every now and then he touches the familiar walls of the living room, doesn’t trip over an obstacle (a stick that is always there), and when he doesn’t know what to do next, his brother shakes his hand. He rarely opens his eyes. If so, there would be two blue prosthetics as eye replacements – which also don’t allow him to see, but make him visually inconspicuous – people can be quite cruel.
For his brothers, the baby is the beloved center. “They love him to death,” his parents say. “Help him where they can, brush him off constantly, try to include him in everything.”
House needs to be renovated
The parents still have to pay a lot financially. The house, like so many other houses financed with borrowed money, now needs to be renovated to make it accessible to the disabled. Jonas is still a toddler, but he is growing up. Will always need a lot of help. Support. Special treatments. Ultimately, a guide dog that supports him every step of the way.
The account for Jonas is still open
We would like to thank you very much for the donations so far, for the sweet boy and for everyone else this year (we will report on that later). But you can continue to support Jonas. Simply add the password Jonas to the account number provided.
We have been able to achieve so much with what you have donated this year. Please make further help possible for Styrians in need due to illness, job loss or fate.
