The European executive takes a positive view of the payment of 12,000 million euros to the country, which is to be assessed by a committee
The European Commission on Monday issued its preliminary positive assessment of the second payment of the recovery funds to Spain. On April 30, the country requested the second disbursement of Next Generation funds, based on the fulfillment of 40 milestones and targets implemented in the second half of 2021. These achievements include reforms in areas such as the green transition, the market, among others, pensions and digitalisation.
The Community Executive has sent its approval to the Economic and Financial Committee, which has a maximum of four weeks to make a decision. Based on the committee’s position, the European Commission will then take its final decision and the payment of the 12,000 million euros will take place.
The EU has already provided EUR 9,036 million in pre-financing to Spain, in addition to another EUR 10,000 million from the first payment of recovery aid, to which this second payment will be added.
