Osakidetza will strengthen primary care with 360 professionals and invest 120 million in health centers

In the coming months, Osakidetza will complete a staff expansion that will include 358 new positions to strengthen primary care, in which a total of 120 million euros will be invested between 2025 and 2030 to create new health centers and improve existing ones. .

These measures were announced on Thursday in Vitoria-Gasteiz by the Minister of Health, Alberto Martínez, within the framework of an action program to improve the operation and assistance of the Basque Health Service of Osakidetza to citizens.

In the coming months, the full deployment of the workforce expansion initiated by the Primary Care Strategy promoted by the Ministry of Health and Osakidetza will reach its peak, resulting in the creation of 358 places to strengthen this level of care.

Osakidetza will conduct a personnel survey to ensure proper coverage of the various services and units. In this sense, a competitive OPE will be held for positions difficult to fill for medical staff in the field of primary care for general practitioners and pediatrics, made possible by an additional provision in the new Basque budget law.

In turn, Osakidetza will be staffed with 63 experienced nurses and 25 hospital liaison professionals within five years.

On the other hand, the infrastructure plan 2025-2030 provides for new primary care centers in Álava (Casco Viejo de Vitoria-Gasteiz and Laudio), Bizkaia (Bolueta, in Bilbao, Arrigorriaga and Urduliz) and in Gipuzkoa (Txomin Enea, in San Francisco). Sebastián, Irun Center and Oñaurre Elgoibar and Lazkao). The estimated budget for these actions is 67.4 million euros.

Likewise, 14.8 million euros will be allocated to the expansion of the existing primary care centers: San Ignacio (Bilbao) and Sondika. Seven million euros will also be invested in the comprehensive rehabilitation of the primary care centers of Santutxu (Bilbao) and Bergara.

To this amount is added another 22.5 million for partial renovations in existing centers. Osakidetza will invest nine million euros in improving equipment, to promote the digital transformation of public healthcare, empower patients and provide safe and valuable services to citizens, 75 million euros will be invested in new systems.
