A 15-year-old teenager, who was up to her waist in water, was rescued from the inn in Tyrol’s Schwaz on Thursday evening. The girl stated that her friend of the same age had fallen into the river. A major search was then launched. The case raises questions.
At 10:05 p.m., the Schwaz fire brigade received the alarm from the Tyrolean control center: “drowning accident”. “In such cases, a special alarm plan is activated,” says operations manager Markus Kirchner of the Schwaz fire brigade.
The emergency services quickly found what they were looking for. “On the north side of the Inn, between the Barbara Bridge and the highway bridge, we discovered a girl standing in water up to her waist,” Kirchner said. The emotionally distraught teen said her friend raided the inn.
Night search started
As the rescue team took the 15-year-old to Schwaz hospital, a major nighttime search began. In addition to the Schwaz fire brigade, the Florianis from Stans, Buch, Jenbach and Strass and the Kufstein district fire brigade association were in action with one and the professional fire brigade of Innsbruck with two drones.
Observation posts on bridges
The approximately 50 firefighters were accompanied by 26 water rescuers from Schwaz/Achensee, Reith im Alpbachtal and Kramsach. Observation posts were placed on all the Inn bridges up to Strass, the banks were searched and boats were used to search for the missing local girl on the river. Unfortunately, the search was unsuccessful. “We had to break it down around 1 a.m.,” says Markus Kirchner.
Initially, no further search was conducted on Friday morning. The girl’s fate is currently uncertain.
