After the knife attack on the ex-wife in Upper Austria, interviews with the suspect provide deep insight into his inner life. Thinking about power and property could have been the cause of the bloody act in Linz. Shortly before the man was stabbed, he had also set his well-hidden tent camp on fire.
More and more details are emerging about the bloody crime that took place in Linz on Wednesday morning: a 45-year-old homeless man robbed his ex-wife in a parking lot and attacked her with an eleven-centimetre-long knife. She was able to escape in her vehicle, but suffered a stab wound to the chest during the attack, which also damaged her lungs.
Attempted murder
After the crime, the 45-year-old turned himself in to the police, who are investigating attempted murder. “The suspect has no criminal record and probably has an alcohol problem. The couple had already been separated for a year,” said Ulrike Breiteneder, public prosecutor of Linz.
Woman stalks
During the interrogation he allowed himself a deep look into his inner life. “He states that he just wanted to talk to his wife and give her a lesson,” Breiteneder said. He often rode the tram past the 31-year-old’s apartment and then called her and accused her of meeting other men.
Camp set on fire
The Linzer is also being investigated for arson. Just an hour before the knife attack, he is said to have set fire to his well-camouflaged tent camp in the Ebelsberg meadows.
