Lilli Paasikivi, neo-director of the Bregenz Festival, talks in the big ‘Krone’ interview about Christmas, her arrival in Vorarlberg, the happy Finns and the term ‘Sisu’.
“Kron”: Taking over the management of the Bregenz Festival was a step abroad, a bit into the unknown. How was the landing?
Lilli Paasikivi: I was warmly welcomed by everyone in Bregenz. Of course, it was a big step for me personally to leave my home and my family and move to a new country with a different culture. Such a new beginning requires many practical precautions, but I am confident that everything will gradually fall into place. The work itself looks very familiar to me. In my previous position as artistic director of the Finnish National Opera, I curated many programs and opera seasons. I am really looking forward to this new challenge; that is exactly what drives me in my life. I am confident that together with the Bregenz Festival team I will provide great content to future audiences.
