An accident took place on the Gailtal national road in Carinthia shortly after 10 a.m. on Wednesday. Although there were initially reports of two serious injuries, it has now been confirmed: Unfortunately, one accident victim (76) did not survive the head-on collision.
The serious traffic accident took place on Wednesday on the B111 in the municipality of St. Stefan im Gailtal – just a few meters away from the fire station there. Presumably a collision occurred with oncoming traffic while turning.
“There was nothing more we could do”
Two people were injured in the accident, probably the two drivers. The ARA air rescue was alerted to take a seriously injured person to hospital. It was a 76-year-old from the Villach-Land district.
“Unfortunately, there was nothing more we could do for the person,” the helpers said. The seriously injured man died of his injuries at the scene of the accident. Another person – a 24-year-old from Hermagor – was taken to hospital by ambulance. It is not yet known whether there were other people in the vehicles.
