A forgotten candle on an Advent wreath meant that the volunteer fire brigade had to be deployed in Eibiswald (Deutschlandsberg district) on Christmas Day. The Styrian Florianis were also challenged in Lannach and Unterlamm.
33 firefighters had to extinguish an apartment fire on Wednesday after an 82-year-old left the Advent wreath candles burning during a walk. When she returned, the woman wanted to go to the Advent wreath in the kitchen, but this was not possible because of the heavy smoke.
She called her son and his family, who lived upstairs, for help and was brought to safety. Paramedics from the Red Cross took her to LKH West Styria for further examination.
Animals died in the fire in Lannach
Several animals died in a fire at a farm in Lannach (Deutschlandsberg district) on Christmas Day. As the Styrian State Police announced in the evening, two pigs and three sheep died in the flames. Several machines, including two tractors, were also completely destroyed. The material damage is estimated at six figures. 120 firefighters were deployed and extinguishing efforts continued into the evening.
The fire broke out around 8 a.m. and was noticed by a neighbor. When the police arrived, the building was already completely engulfed in flames. The roof structure of the farm building had to be removed using two excavators to remove about 100 hay bales from the top floor and extinguish it in a controlled manner. The Styrian State Police is investigating the cause of the fire. No people were injured.
Fire in the attic
In Unterlamm (Southeast Styria district), a single-family house caught fire in the absence of the owners. The fire, which was discovered by witnesses around 3 p.m., quickly spread over the entire roof structure and could be reported as “fire out” around 5 p.m. There is probably a lot of material damage.
