Several missions – the storm whirled exhausted kiters into the air

“Surfer hanging in the tree!” The alarm went off while handing out presents. Police and fire brigades rushed to the aid of an athlete at the lake

While many families were handing out presents on Christmas Eve and looking with festive joy at the presents under the Christmas tree, a kite surfer at Lake Neusiedler in Podersdorf had the wind blowing heavily around his ears. The gusts of wind left the water sports enthusiast in distress.

“Kiter is hanging in the tree,” was the alarm message at 5:52 p.m. “When we arrived, the kiter was being held by police patrols on the shore of the northern beach. “During the storm he had major problems landing and securing his glider on the ground,” emergency services report. Thanks to the active helpers, everything went well. The reinforcements reported by Gols and Frauenkirchen, including turntable ladders, were no longer needed. After his rescue the kiter was completely exhausted.

The alarm went off again at the state security headquarters around 7:30 p.m. Strong gusts of wind uprooted a tree on the side of the B50 near Mariasdorf – the mighty trunk with thick branches fell onto the road and crashed into a passing car.

The accident victim was trapped in the wreckage but was freed by volunteers and escaped with minor injuries. “The accident ended slightly. The emergency doctor provided initial care on site, after which further examinations took place in the hospital,” the Red Cross team said. The police and fire brigades of Mariasdorf, Oberschützen and Bernstein were also on duty with a total of 45 men. Due to the storm, the comrades from Oberwart, Unterwart, Großpetersdorf, Kohfidisch, Goberling and Dürnbach also had to move. “No one was injured,” was the encouraging conclusion.
