The oldest bishop of the Catholic Church in the world will turn 103 years old on New Year’s Day, Kathpress reported on Monday. The Mexican José de Jesús Sahagún de la Parra was born in 1961 at the age of 39 by Pope John XXIII. appointed Bishop of Tula.

José de Jesús Sahagún de la Parra, bishop of Ciudad Lázaro Cárdenas in Mexico until 1993, is one of the last four living fathers of the Second Vatican Council (1962 to 1965) – and the only one who participated in the opening.

Priest 78 years, bishop 63 years
Sahagún de la Parra has been a priest for 78 years and a bishop for 63 years. As of July 2022, he is the oldest Catholic bishop in the world. Currently, nine Catholic bishops are over 100 years old, more than ever before.
