Graz says goodbye to the old and welcomes the new year with spectacle. On New Year’s Eve, the central square will host five laser, light and water shows, with the finale taking place at midnight. Admission is free; for many it is a musical journey back in time to their youth.
“It’s 1996!” No, it’s still 2024. And soon 2025. But when the first iconic lyrics from Fettes Brot’s hit “Jein” sound, the crowd on Graz’s main square starts to wave. The sound hits the target group perfectly: many young families and parents feel transported back to their youth.
The first of five shows in the Graz New Year’s Eve spectacle is entirely dedicated to the 90s and their best hits. It’s a wild 20 minute ride through many genres. Falco should not be missing here, just like Michael Jackson and the Spice Girls. The Backstreet Boys cause heartbreak, Coolio raps “Gangsta’s Paradise” and classics from football stadiums are also played with “Carneval de Paris”.

The DJ set is accompanied by water fountains up to 40 meters high, a laser show including holograms and flames. This New Year’s Eve spectacle is already a tradition in Graz; It has been the (particulate-free) alternative to large fireworks for years.
Midnight show as highlight
There are a total of five shows – presented by the “Kronen Zeitung” – (5:30 PM, 7:30 PM, 9:00 PM, 10:30 PM and midnight). It goes back to the nineties again, two more shows have the motto “Beautiful Life” and promise a lot of magic. The crowning achievement is the bombastic ‘New Year’s Eve show’ at midnight.
Guitar virtuoso will inspire
At short notice, Ivents’ organizers announced that some performances would be accompanied by an Italian electric guitar virtuoso. Gastro stands provide (hot) drinks and food.
