Two mudslides came down on Tuesday afternoon in the area of L16 Pitztalstrae in the municipality of St. Leonhard in the Tyrolean Pitztal. To date, there are no known personal injuries or vehicle damage. However, according to the state, the rear Pitztalstrae will remain temporarily closed due to the ongoing risk of mudslides.
The end of the valley and the districts of Tieflehn, Mandarfen and Mittelberg in the municipality of St. Leonhard cannot be reached by road due to the mudslides. “Cleaning work has started, but had to be canceled for the time being due to another thunderstorm,” the state said. Around 100 to 150 people are present in the area of the end of the valley or the valley station of the Pitztal Glacier, who can be well looked after on site.
The duration of the ban is still unclear
The duration of the ban cannot yet be estimated. “As soon as the weather conditions allow it, the clean-up work will continue,” it sounds. “So far there is no indication of mudslides on the road,” said Thomas Geiler, head of the state warning center in Landhaus.
