The stroller fire in a stairwell in Vienna-Favoriten led to a major emergency: 37 people had to be transferred to the professional rescue service for emergency medical care, five of whom had to be taken to hospital. Investigators are now trying to determine the cause of the fire.
The flames on Friday afternoon around 4:30 pm in Muhrengasse were quickly extinguished. However, the fire in the house on Muhrengasse caused heavy smoke in the stairwell and in some apartments.
Residents were rescued using ladders and wearing escape filter masks
This endangered many residents and prevented them from escaping outside. Therefore, those affected were evacuated with ladders above the windows on the one hand and with so-called escape filter masks on the other.
The fire brigade also rescued several pets: a cat and five birds. Further measures included ventilation of the stairs and removal of the remains of the burned strollers.
