Date:

Several German holidaymakers were involved in a serious tobogganing accident in the Tyrolean town of Ausserfern on Friday evening. A fatal collision occurred on a circuit in Ehrwald – two young women were injured, one of whom suffered a broken femur.

The serious tobogganing accident occurred around 8:15 p.m. “After two young people aged 16 and 17, who were on a sled together, stopped due to the situation, two subsequent sledders (13 and 22 years old) collided with their sled,” the police report said.

Broken leg and collarbone injury
The 17-year-old teenager suffered a broken femur. After receiving initial care at the scene of the accident, she was taken to the valley and then taken by ambulance to the Reutte district hospital. The 22-year-old suffered injuries to her collarbone. She was taken to a local clinic for further examination.

All others involved escaped the shock and were unharmed, according to the director.

More than 2000 injured in accidents
Unfortunately, tobogganing accidents are common in winter. Every year, approximately 2,200 injured people in Austria require hospital treatment. According to the Dutch Road Safety Board (KFV), this amounts to around twelve injuries per day during the toboggan season.
