Ukrainians warn: – Russian soldiers want to switch off cooling nuclear power plant

Date:

Ukrainian nuclear power plant operator Energoatom warns of a nuclear threat at the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant, which is occupied by Russian troops. The occupier therefore wants to switch off the cooling system of the nuclear power plant and pump out the cooling basins. Putin’s soldiers apparently suspect a weapons depot there.

This is reported by the Ukrainian newspaper “Ukrainska Pravda”, citing Energoatom warnings in the courier service Telegram. The Russian occupiers want to shut down the power plant’s cooling system and pump out the cooling tanks to look for hidden weapons there. According to Energoatom, this carries the risk of a radioactive incident.

Russia accuses workers of hiding weapons
According to the operator of the power plant, the Russian occupation army accuses the personnel in Zaporizhzhya of hiding weapons on the site of the power plant. Several workers were “kidnapped and tortured” to extract a confession. The Russians suspect weapons, explosives and ammunition in the pools with the cooling water and want to look now.

The Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant is the largest nuclear power plant in Europe
With its six pressurized water reactors, the Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant in southeastern Ukraine is the largest nuclear power plant in Europe. It has been controlled by Russia since early March. In mid-June, the occupiers announced that they wanted to take control of the power plant from the Ukrainian operator. Russia wants the plant to be operated by domestic nuclear power company Rosatom from September.
