A layer of ice had life-threatening consequences for a Swedish guard. In the slippery conditions, the man fell heavily – and placed his own bayonet in his head.
What happened? A Royal Guard spokesman said he had slipped on the ice. The bayonet – a type of knife attached to the gun – penetrated the right side of his head. Initially there was a danger to life.
Bayonets were removed as a precaution
Thanks to quick first aid from his comrades and emergency surgery, the man’s condition was stabilized. Things are looking good for him now, the spokesperson continued.
As a precaution, the guards’ bayonets were removed as snow and ice conditions continued. The police have started an investigation into the incident.
