The traffic jam greets you every day: whether nerve-wracking, tiring or simply annoying – the traffic chaos becomes a daily game of patience for many in and around Linz. But how bad is the situation in the capital of Upper Austria compared to other cities? A look at TomTom’s data is surprising.
For commuters and residents of Linz itself, morning traffic jams have long become a ritual – annoying, tiring and, above all, time-consuming. The subjective impression may lead us to believe that we have a monopoly on traffic jams, but a look at the facts – provided by navigation giant TomTom – paints a slightly different picture.
Only in Innsbruck is there less status
In 2024, motorists in Linz spent a total of one day and twenty hours in traffic jams. The daily “bumper to bumper” roll is of course annoying, but compared to other Austrian cities it is almost a piece of cake. Because except for Innsbruck (30 hours), Salzburg (78 hours) and Graz (86 hours), you need a much stronger nervous system than here. Not to mention the Viennese: they were bumper to bumper for almost four days (95 hours). By the way, the worst traffic jam was on October 1: there was a bomb threat at Linz main station.
