During the investigation into the plane crash in South Korea that killed 179 people, there are increasing indications that a bird strike was the cause of the accident. Bird feathers and blood were found in both engines of the plane.
Someone from the inspection team said this on Friday. South Korea’s transport ministry declined to comment. Investigators recently said springs were found on one of the motorcycles recovered from the accident scene. Video footage also showed a motorcycle being hit by a bird.
The two flight recorders stopped recording about four minutes before impact. This complicates the ongoing investigation. Only two crew members sitting in the back of the Boeing were able to be pulled alive from the wreckage by rescuers.
As reported, the plane of budget airline Jeju Air, coming from Bangkok, skidded off the runway while landing at Muan Regional Airport in late December. It had crashed into a dike wall and set on fire. The pilot had previously made a distress call and reported a collision with a bird at the tower. The tower in turn had warned the crew of a bird strike shortly before landing.
