Major operation and search for a fugitive gunman – again in the Mühlviertel, where the manhunt for the gunman Roland Drexler is still fresh in the memory. This time, however, the police assume that the perpetrator had no one else in his sights: he shot out of jealousy and the victim died in the hands of the rescuers!
Shortly before nine o’clock shots rang out in the quiet town of Oberkappel in the Rohrbach district. According to what is known so far, a German man shot his wife’s new lover, with whom he was divorcing. The weapon: a pistol. The 51-year-old victim suffered life-threatening injuries, paramedics and the Red Cross emergency doctor fought for almost an hour for the Mühlviertler’s life, but he could not be saved. He’s dead
44 year old on the run
The police are now hunting the 44-year-old suspect, a German. A large contingent of the executive branch is on its way from Linz to Oberkappel, almost 60 kilometers away and located directly on the Bavarian border. The German police are also active because the suspect is German, just like his wife.
She would not have been present during the crime. The gunman fled in a car, but it is unclear whether he drove across the border into Germany. The great manhunt is underway.
No second Drexler case
“We do not assume any potential danger to bystanders. “It is not a second Drexler case,” the police want to reassure. Because the search for Roland Drexler kept the population around Altenfelden – just southeast of Oberkappel – in suspense for a whole week and turned the region into a fortress.
