The butane cylinder rises in price to 16.64 euros under the threat of an indefinite strike by distributors

Date:

They ask for a revision of the rates and commissions: the distributor asks for a commission of about 3 euros for each bottle, and they ask to increase it to 4.80 euros.

They announce an indefinite strike starting in February in the butane bottle distribution sector. In recent weeks they have taken action to denounce that their situation is untenable. They are asking to review rates and commissions because what can be uploaded is limited. The price of butane today is 16.64 euros. It is forecast every two months, they did it yesterday, and it has become more expensive by 0.18%. From them, the distributor asks for a commission of about 3 euros, a percentage that they consider insufficient. Therefore, one of the requirements increase this commission to 4.80 euros. Butane consumption has decreased significantly in recent years. In the case of the CAV has fallen by more than 71% in almost twenty years. However, it is estimated that they will be sold one million cylinders per year.

The maximum sales price of the butane cylinder will increase by 0.18% to 16.64 euros from this Tuesday, continuing the upward trend that resumed in September last year, according to a resolution published in the Government Gazette (BOE).

This bimonthly revision is calculated based on the costs of raw materials (propane and butane) on international markets, as well as the costs of freight (transport) and the evolution of the exchange rate between the euro and the dollar. On the other hand, the said price revision, up or down, is limited to 5%, with the excess or defect in the price accumulating for application in subsequent revisions.

In concrete terms, the increase in this latest overview is the result of a slight increase in raw material prices by 0.43% and freight prices (-1.18%) and the depreciation of the euro against the dollar (-4.1%) , as indicated by sources from the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge.

Bottled liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) is a mixture of hydrocarbons, mainly consisting of butane, that serves as an alternative to natural gas for energy consumption in pressurized containers, especially in cities or urban centers without connection to the natural gas network.

Currently, 64.5 million LPG containers of various capacities are consumed annually. It is a fuel that is in decline: between 2010 and 2021, the total consumption of LPG in bottles has decreased by more than 25%.
