Because the switch to the new Boeing Long-Haul train aircraft of Type 787-9 Dreamliner is in danger of being postponed, the Austrian Airlines (AUA) is now investigating whether to fly longer with the existing Boeing 767 (photo above).
“It currently looks like the arrival of the “Dreamliner” due to the known supply issues with Boeing and also with other supply chain suppliers,” said AUA board member Michael Trestl, who is moving to ITA Airways from Rome to Rome on February 1.
Extension of the operation has been checked
When requested, the AUA press office said that an extension of Boeing 767 use was currently being explored, “to have a backup in the event of an actual delayed arrival of the other Dreamliners”.
The AUA has operated two used Dreamliners since 2024. A total of 2,028 Eleven Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners are set to replace the previous long-haul 777 and 767 series aircraft in the Lufthansa subsidiary.
Manufacturer Boeing is in crisis
The American aircraft manufacturer Boeing is in crisis and has enormous problems with the timely delivery of new aircraft. It is currently still unclear when the next copies of the Dreamliners can be delivered to the AUA.
