Two billion investments – Denmark increases the military presence in the Arctic

Date:

According to the regional claims of US President Donald Trump on the Greenland of Denmark, the Nordic state wants to strengthen its military presence in the North Pole area. In total you want to invest 14.6 billion Danish crowns (almost two billion euros), said Minister of Defense Troels Lund Poulsen (photo above) on Monday.

It contains the financing of three new ships of the Arctic Navy, two extra long -distance brul and satellites for better supervision, the minister continues.

After more than a decade of drastic cuts in the Defense spending, Denmark made 190 billion Danish crowns (25.5 billion euros) for his army for a period of ten years, some of which are intended for the North Pole area.

Greenland four times the size of France
Denmark is responsible for the safety and defense of Greenland, but has only limited military capacities on the island. Denmark currently has four outdated inspection ships, a challenger monitoring plane and twelve dog sled patrols to check an area that is four times as large as France.

Trump recently indicated various interest in “possession and control” to Grönland. The huge island in the Arctic with its approximately 57,000 inhabitants is of great strategic importance for the United States, which maintains an air force base with an early warning system for ballistic rockets.

The capital of Greenland, Nuuk, is closer to New York than at Copenhagen. Greenland also has land treasures under the ice.
