Almost every fourth respondent (23 percent) was drunk on the slopes of Austria last year. Every tenth person even regularly used alcohol in winter sports, as a dark field study by the Kuratorium for Road Safety (KFV) shows.
13 percent indicated that they rarely consume alcohol when they drive or ski in the Roduct, for example. “Unfortunately we have to assume that one of the 77 percent who denied this question is also a number of non-reported people who do not want to admit their alcohol consumption,” said Johanna Trauner-Karner of the KFV. In Austria, at least 200,000 people would practice winter sports under the influence of alcohol.
Some of them are so seriously injured that the treatment in the hospital is necessary. Four out of ten respondents stated that at least occasionally assumed that someone was on the slopes under the influence of alcohol or drugs, for example because of a dangerous driving style. “In fact, depending on the amount of drinks and constitution, there may be different limitations after the consumption of alcohol: while some become more unanimous and choose a more reckless driving style,” said Trauner-Karner.
Equalism endanger others
The reaction speed is lowered, balance disorders would jeopardize other people and increase the risk of accidents. Moreover, the visual field is of the affected infection.
“It is of course completely okay to return to ski huts or other locations in between. However, it would be an important contribution to security if you have the consumption of alcohol at least until the time after skiing, tobogganing or touring and in between preference for small meals and non-alcoholic drinks, ”recommends Trauner-Karner. 1000 people between the ages of 16 and 69 were interviewed for the Dark Field Study.
