For Song Contest – Hardcore fans are already blocking entire hotels

From Vienna to Innsbruck-the-The-number Competition Effect not only yields great anticipation, but also turbulence on the hotel market.

As soon as the Eurovision Song Contest 2026 has become a topic of conversation, the first wave is already rolling – not on stage, but in the booking systems of the hotels. It is still fully open where the spectacle is held, but the reservations are already hot in Vienna and Tyrol. The weekends in May were almost completely booked in many places. A phenomenon that woke up memories of the ESC year 2015 with one decisive difference: at least at that time the location was established.

Some reserve every weekend
“Safe is certain”, is the unofficial motto of the fans and their bookings. Sometimes the same group reserves every weekend in the preferred hotel. The prices? Hauptainnau, at least. “Of course the question arranges the price,” says an expert in the industry. And that is exactly what drives him to dizzying heights: instead of 200 euros per night, more than 800 euros are asked for a weekend.

Price is based on the question
A dynamic price model also heats the situation. In some hotels, an algorithm regularly calculates new, depending on the occupation, demand and the competition. In Vienna there is already an increase of around 20 percent. In the federal capital, however, the rises are not that important because of the large quantities of hotel rooms. And for the hotels there is great uncertainty: because in most cases free cancellations are possible in the very short term.

Rooms can also be canceled quickly
Nevertheless, the spirit of optimism is also clearly noticeable in Vienna, at least in tourism. The tourist director of Vienna sees Norbert Kettner well positioned: with 82,000 beds, excellent railway connection and experience with large events. “We have just been honored like a city with the most international congresses worldwide,” Kettner emphasizes. But instead of euphoria, he gives a sense of relationship. Because a “golden digging mood”, according to his warning, can scare guests in the long term.
