In the end it wasn’t enough for a new record. With around 10.9 million euros, a rare and several hundred years old Stradivari Geige achieved a very proud sum at an auction in New York on Friday.
As the Sotheby’s auction house announced, the violin of the famous Italian instruments Maker Antonio Stradivari, known for his extraordinary sound, is the third part of the party music instrument that was once sold at an auction. The violin “Lady Blunt” won the record price of $ 15.9 million in 2011 (approximately EUR 15.4 million).
The sound of the now auctioned violin, which was named after their former owner “Joachim-Ma”, was particularly “rich, complex and full of depths,” said Sotheby’s. It is therefore one of the instruments that Stradivari built 300 years ago during his so -called gold period.
For a long time the violin of the famous Chinese violinist and educator Si-Hon Ma, who gave the Edel instrument of his Alma Mater, the New England Conservatory in Boston in 2009, gave it to sell it one day for fairs to finance. In the 19th century, the violin belonged to the famous Hungarian virtuoso Joseph Joachim, who collaborated with composers such as Johannes Brahms.
