Achieve the Stanley Cup once as a champion! This is the ultimate dream for every hockey player in the USA. Now, for a couple from Denver, it came true. Dmitri Rudenko and Kit Karbler have not even skated in their lives. The prestigious giant cup was accidentally delivered to their home.
The “Colorado Avalanche” had secured the title of the American ice hockey league NHL last week. As is tradition, players can then take home the oldest surviving trophy in American professional sports (created in 1893) for a few days.
Team captain Gabe Landeskog would be the first to receive the cup. But the delivery service had mixed up the last two digits of the address and rang the doorbell for Kit Karbler and his friend Dmitri Rudenko. “We stared at the trophy and I joked, ‘Is that the Stanley Cup?’ to which a supplier actually said, ‘Yes!'”
Fortunately, the two owners knew where Landesog lived. “We showed the suppliers where to go. They were so grateful that we were allowed to hold the trophy for a while. Unfortunately no selfie taken!”
