The writer Robert Schneider speaks to the sociologist Dr. Simon Burtscher-Mathis over the Vorarlberg Children’s Village and the parenting methods over time.
In the summer of 1939, a Catholic priest from Vorarlberg, called Hugo Kleinbrod, organized a holiday camp for malnourished children from Lustenau, whose poverty had touched him deeply. In the following years he also carried out this mattress camp in Buchboden to make the children possible at least a few carefree days, especially: something to eat. A driver’s car said that he moved from farm to farm to collect donations in kind, entertained a potato field to plant potatoes for the children.
