Devastating accident on Sunday evening in the city of Innsbruck: A drunk driver drove into a tunnel as a wrong-way driver and collided head-on with a taxi. Another driver was also unable to get away in time. A total of four people were injured, one of them seriously!
The accident happened around 3.30 am in the tunnel on the Egger-Lienz-Strasse near the WIFI. A 43-year-old Rotterdammer drove his car against the prescribed driving direction in the two-lane underpass.
Three cars involved in accident
There was a head-on collision in the tunnel with a taxi in which two passengers were seated (37) in addition to the driver. A 53-year-old driver, whose car also had two occupants, was unable to react in time and crashed into the taxi with full force.
Taxi driver seriously injured freed from wreckage
The taxi driver was trapped in the vehicle and had to be freed by the professional fire brigade of Innsbruck. The 37-year-old suffered serious injuries – three other people were injured indefinitely. They were all taken to hospital by ambulance.
The suspected driver of the accident was under the influence of alcohol, according to police. Appropriate advertisements will follow.
