Lines dissatisfied – Focal Gardens: often not ready for school children

Date:

70 percent of kindergarten lines in Austria investigated in more than half of their children do not feel well at school. They justify this with a lack of cognitive, linguistic or social-emotional development.

From 2024, a research team around Bernhard Koch (Tirol University of Education) merged surveys of styric and Upper Austrian kindergarten with research results from Tyrol and Vorarlberg from 2021. Kindergarten were considered in which at least every second child has a different first language than German, The parents do not have a high level of training.

Despite the “Focal Kindergarten” label, the lines are satisfied with the work atmosphere. Nine out of ten stated that an integration culture is lived in daily life, for example, songs are sung in other languages. At the same time, it is important for three -quarters of the respondents to convey values and customs from Austria.

Work has become more difficult
The staff themselves have been calling for smaller groups and better care relationships – lack of workforce. In the lines, almost six out of ten (59 percent) said that working with children with a migration background had become “harder”. Some children and their parents have little contact with German spare -children and their parents, said it. Some parents are also not aware of their own role in learning German.

70 percent of the lines of about 140 toddlers surveyed stated that they had no feeling for school maturity in more than half of the children. They were concerned about cognitive and linguistic and social-emotional development. However, adulthood is assessed by the teachers of primary schools in registration.

“It can be expected that the challenges in many other kindergartens will increase,” said Study author Koch. His team recommends improving the care key and combining children from different first languages. Children must be able to learn German at the last minute. The federal government must give more money, especially for focal gardening.
