The Austrian woman who was attacked and fatally injured by a shark while swimming in the Egyptian holiday paradise of Hurghada is from Kramsach in the Tyrolean lowlands. The victim leaves behind a daughter.
The woman was apparently ripped off an arm and a leg in the attack. The 68-year-old somehow managed to save herself on the coast, but then went into cardiac arrest on the way to hospital.
Sea turned red after attack
The shark, about two meters in length, reportedly attacked the woman, who came from Kramsach in the Tyrolean district of Kufstein, in Sahl Hasheesh Bay. She swam and wore flippers, as can be seen in videos circulating on the Internet.
The recordings show how the pensionado is attacked by the animal and the sea around her turns blood red. Authorities have now cordoned off the beach area and the surrounding area for three days.
Area approved for swimming
The Austrian embassy in Cairo is in contact with the 68-year-old’s family and local authorities. According to the report, the Tyrolean was on the beach with her Egyptian partner. The woman was in an area approved for swimming. She leaves behind a daughter.
