Austria loses a real wine icon: Klaus Wagner, one of the most respected sommeliers and hosters in Austria, died last week after a long illness of his family. He has considerably formed the success story of the famous “Landhaus Bacher” in Mautern on the Danube.
Together with his wife, the top chef Lisl Wagner-Bacher, Klaus Wagner led the inn, who once was her father, one of the most striking addresses in the country. While Lisl Wagner-Bacher caused a stir with her excellent cuisine, it was Klaus Wagner who, with his passion for noble wines from Bordeaux and the Wachau, made the wine cellar of the house one of the most prestigious in Austria.
Even today, the “Landhaus Bacher” in family-hand daughter Susanne Wagner-Dorfer is further as a sommelier, while her husband, chef Thomas Dorfer, takes care of the kitchen.
