Following the “Cobra Libre” affair, there is now renewed excitement about police drunkenness. This time it’s about an officer.
While the Chancellor’s former bodyguards have since been transferred from the Cobra to office work after a blood alcohol accident, the next alcohol scandal is causing quite a stir in the ranks of the executive.
The Vienna police recently reported the accident of a motorcyclist in a sober broadcast – he crashed his motorcycle into a car while intoxicated. Of course, what was not revealed is that the driver is an officer who has received numerous awards and is one of the top investigators of the Ministry of the Interior.
Lost control when changing lanes
The top police officer may have looked way too deep into a glass after or during a boat trip on the Danube. Still, he got on the machine and drove home. It happened as it should: Not far from the blue river on Klosterneuburger Strasse, the officer lost control of the wheel when changing lanes, collided with a car and fell. On the spot, he refused colleagues in uniform the alcohol test, which was only done in the hospital: 2.59 per mille.
The victim of the accident had to undergo surgery on his arm, but has returned home. Now waiting for a fine of up to 5900 euros, a driving ban of at least six months and a traffic psychological examination…
