Italy plans to test Hyperloop high-speed rail technology. “We will build and test the Hyperloop first in the Veneto region and then in another region,” Italian Transport Minister Enrico Giovannini said, according to the media.
On the 34-kilometre-long Padua-Mestre railway, experiments are taking place with the ‘tube mail’ train that is more than 1000 km/h fast. “We can no longer talk about ports, airports, highways and railways that are not connected. Everything will be connected,” says Giovannini.
The funds that Italy receives from the EU recovery plan are used for this. Italy will receive 200 billion euros from Brussels, part of which will be used to modernize its infrastructure.
The Hyperloop concept envisions electrically powered passenger capsules that zoom through a low-pressure tube at speeds of up to 1,220 kilometers per hour. Several companies are encouraging the development of the technology.
