Last October, the Viennese Artziwna gallery made a rediscovered painting of the British romantic William Turner (1775-1851). This is the first version of Turner’s classic “Venice, seen from the Canal Delle Giudecca, with the Church of Santa Maria della Salute”, which hangs in the London Victoria & Albert Museum. The gallery now offers the painting for 38 million euros for direct sales, as announced on Monday.
Until now, the work was around 1840 in the Viennese private property, where the origin of the 180 -year image in relation to the early phase and the road to Vienna in the fall cannot be clearly understood.
In 1980 the purchase of “Venice, seen from the Canal Delle Giudecca, with the church of Santa Maria della Salute” was documented by one of the previous owners in Vienna. In 2005, today’s owner finally acquired the gymnastics painting from an Austrian private collector. The new owner has made it available for scientific studies – with the result that it is an elifoto of the British painter’s size.
The owner decided a direct sale through the gallery instead of an auction, Artziwna said when he was asked by APA. There are no concrete interested parties for the sister image of approximately 60 centimeters.
Experts confirmed authenticity
With the announcement of the rediscovered work, the Gallery also published a scientific publication about the origin of the work, in which experts such as Belvedere Curator Franz Smola or Katja Sterflinger, head of the Institute for Natural Science and Technology in the Art at the Academy Classes, go into technical exams and an art -History. The conclusion of the experts was clear: “All scientific studies show that this can only be a painting of gymnast,” said Smola.
