Devastating big fire in Waizenkirchen (Upper Austria): Although 12 fire brigades fought for hours, a farm was almost completely destroyed. And the farmer (54) was also injured.
An 18-year-old from Waizenkirchen saw a lot of smoke coming from the roof of the service wing of the neighboring farm around 7:35 p.m. on Wednesday. Within a short time, the entire service wing went up in flames, so he called the emergency services of the fire brigade.
200 men in action
The oncoming fire brigades immediately started to put out the fire and put in place roadblocks and diversions. At the same time, the evacuation of livestock began. A total of twelve fire brigades with about 200 men were deployed. It was possible to prevent the flames from spreading to the living quarters and about 60 cattle and 12 calves were rescued.
Farmer suffered burns
The 54-year-old farmer was working in a nearby field when the fire broke out. He became aware of the smoke and ran to his yard. While evacuating the animals, he suffered burns and respiratory irritation, which led to him being taken to the Wels Clinic. An 87-year-old was in the house at the time of the fire, but left it alone. The fire destroyed the entire service wing.
