Pension reform by the government on rails causes uncertainty and politics for controversial debates. The greens lack measures to keep people employed for longer. Senior representatives and the FPö speak of anti -social and one -sided stress.
The government justifies the planned reforms with the necessary financial protection of the system. Austria is now applying for 30 billion euros for pensions. This is a quarter of the total state income that make up 123 billion. The actual retirement age is far below the legal (men 65, women currently 61.5 – also increases to 65 in 2033). For the 55 to 64 year olds, the retirement age is currently 57.3 years. It is 65.4 for men, 49.4 percent for women.
