In view of rising electricity, gas and fuel prices, Ms and Mr Austrians have entered crisis mode. According to a survey, three quarters of the population (exactly 77 percent) indicate that they save on electricity and energy costs in the household. Two in three respondents say they currently drive less.
Research by the opinion polling institute Unique Research for the current issue of “profil” (range of variation +/- 4.4 percentage points) also shows that only a minority – namely 20 percent of Austrians – are unimpressed by inflation and the Ukraine crisis. They indicate that they “rather not” or “not at all” save on electricity and energy.
According to the survey, nearly a quarter of the 500 respondents to Unique Research currently “prefer not” or “not at all” while driving, with ten percent providing no information about this.
The will to save is strong in all political camps, but slightly less among ÖVP voters when it comes to electricity and energy in the household: the question of whether savings are being made here is confirmed by 83 percent of FPÖ and SPÖ voters , while supporters of the People’s Party are only 73 percent.
