Tragic driving accident happened Monday evening in Birkfeld (Styria). A 32-year-old rider was injured, the horse suffered a neck fracture and died on the spot.
At about 7 p.m., the 32-year-old from the Weiz ward wanted to do riding exercises with a nine-year-old Quarter Horse gelding at the Birkfeld equestrian center. Shortly after she was in the saddle, the horse got up for unknown reason and the 32-year-old fell to the ground with her horse.
Woman was unconscious for a while
The woman hit her head on the ground and was unconscious for some time. The owner of the horse, who was present in the arena, informed the riding arena owners and the emergency services. After the emergency, the 32-year-old was admitted to the LKH Hartberg with injuries of indefinite duration.
The horse suffered a broken neck as a result of the impact and died instantly.
