A 27-year-old ÖBB employee was killed in a work accident in Dornbirn on Tuesday afternoon. According to the police, he was grabbed by a moving steel cable in an underpass and dragged along. The man then fell about six meters into the underpass, for him any help came too late.
The lighting equipment at the Dornbirn-Hatlerdorf stop was repaired on Tuesday. At about 11:45 a.m., a steel cable lying on the ground slipped off the bridge for unknown reasons and stuck in the underpass like a loop. A car driving through the underpass pulled the loop along, putting tension on the steel cable. This trapped the 27-year-old, leading to his crash.
A court-certified expert was appointed to clarify the cause of the accident. Those involved in the accident and witnesses of the accident were received by the crisis intervention team. According to the ÖBB, work on the stop has been suspended for the time being.
