Crashed 30 meters – alpine accident in Zams: 74-year-old German death

Date:

A German alpinist (74) was killed in an accident on his way to the Dremelspitze in Tyrol on Tuesday. When a stone came loose, the German was unable to keep upright and fell about 30 meters down steep terrain.

A German mountaineer (74) left the Hanauerhütte (Reutte district) towards Dremelspitze (Zams district) around 8.20 am on Tuesday, accompanied by a 22-year-old German. Along the way, two obstacles had to be climbed, the first of which was no problem. The second obstacle, however, was their downfall: In a gully, a rock broke loose while climbing about 100 meters below the Dremelspitze, and the 74-year-old couldn’t hold out any longer. He fell about 100 feet over steep terrain. The 74-year-old succumbed to his serious injuries at the scene of the accident and was flown into the valley by the crew of the police helicopter.

22-year-old cared for by crisis intervention team
The 22-year-old supervisor was no longer able to get off independently. He was flown into the valley by the crew of the emergency doctor’s helicopter. He was then received by the crisis intervention team.
