“He’s sad” – dog “Helmut” just left for departure

Date:

A desperate call last week reached Pfotenhilfe Lochen of Wels (Upper Austria): a few hours before departure, a Marchtrenker simply handed the caller his bulldog “Helmut” and then fled. The Welser was overwhelmed and couldn’t find a place for the dog.

Last week animal protection organization Pfotenhilfe received a call from Wels: An acquaintance from Marchtrenk gave the caller his English bulldog a few hours before departure because he could not take it with him. De Welser was completely overwhelmed by the situation, asked the surrounding animal shelters, but they were already full, and did not know what to do with the dog. The paw helper took care of the dog.

“Helmut” is from Greece
The male “Helmut” has been medically checked on arrival and according to his passport and chip is originally from Greece. “Helmut is really incredibly sad that he has lost his family and does not know what happened at all,” said Pfotenhilfe boss Johanna Stadler concerned. “That’s why we urgently need to find him a new family where he will feel safe. Besides, we are overcrowded because of the holidays!”

Many requests every day
Since the start of the holiday in western Austria, Pfotenhilfe has been getting a lot of questions every day because pet owners have not taken care of what to do with their pets when they go on holiday, or have taken care too late. “It’s the same every year around this time,” Stadler says angrily. “A pet is a member of the family and comes with a lot of responsibility and high costs. Short-sighted purchases of animals often lead to a drama that means an uncertain future for the animals concerned. From abandonment to threats of euthanasia if we don’t take the animal in, we’ve seen it all. In the best case scenario, the animals come to us and we find a new, better home. However, due to overcrowding, we can often only provide mediation assistance through our social media channels. But here too we are already reaching our limits because we can no longer handle the workload.”
