The problems among the firefighters in poor Ischl (upper Austria) after an emergency call because of a ridiculously small thing in an already very operational evening is great. A passer -by apparently had raised the alarm because a small bush was at least put in one road – eleven helpers had to move.
On Sunday evening, large parts of Upper Austria, violent storms – accompanied by lightning, wind and heavy rain -. The result was dozens of fire brigade missions for flooded cellars, overloaded channel systems and fallen trees.
There were also missions in bad Ischl. The Reitorndorf fire station had his hands full. Four missions had to be processed parallel. At 8:16 pm the alarm “Baum via Straße” came.
Street was not blocked
“We drove to the site with two vehicles and eleven people because we assumed that there is a large tree, but we have not found anyone,” says Feuerwache boss Andreas Reiter. There was no “blockade” from Technoparkstrasse. “We have only noticed a bush that is at least stuck on the road.”
The head shaking and annoyance spread among Reiter’s colleagues. “We asked ourselves what the caller motivated to choose the emergency call. We were surprised that he did not do it himself. Only one hand would have been needed – with maybe two minutes.” There was also no danger, there is not even a residential area on the street. “If we urgently use help because of such traffic, that would be bitter,” Reiter emphasizes.
“For some people dominates completely combined”
This is also what Johannes Enzenhofer, district commander of Urfahr-Umgebung, sees: “For some people, completely victim dominates. They believe that the fire brigade is responsible for everything.” There was recently a caller who wanted to help the fire brigade to conquer an escaped bird in Eidenberg. “And there are also people who cancel the alarm when water just walks past the house.”
Markus Voglhuber of the State Fire Brigade Command reminds that firefighters make their free time available unpaid and are called away from bed or work during an emergency call. “In the case of danger for people, animals, real assets or the environment, we must be called. But we are not there to light the satellite bowl in snow pressure.”
In times of increasing elbow mentality, self -love and egocentricity, it is becoming increasingly difficult to win people for voluntary work. That is why those who are actually willing to sacrifice their free time should not get the impression that they are the “fools of duty”.
Difficult to say what the caller of Bad Islchl has encouraged to pretend the fire brigade. In theory, the FW Reiterndorf could invoice him, which would be legally covered. But she doesn’t do it, but appeals to common sense to always start before you make an alarm.
